China Energy Storage Network: The German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action recently announced that the German federal and state governments have allocated 4.6 billion euros to 23 hydrogen energy projects, aiming to comprehensively promote the development of green hydrogen production, storage and transportation capabilities.

The funding covers the entire value chain of the hydrogen energy industry, including the construction of renewable energy hydrogen production facilities with a total electrolyzer capacity of up to 1.4 GW on the production side, the deployment of innovative hydrogen storage solutions with a total storage capacity of 370 GWh on the storage side, and the construction of a 2,000-kilometer hydrogen transportation pipeline on the transportation side. The use of liquid organic hydrogen carrier (LOHC) technology is expected to transport about 1,800 tons of hydrogen per year.

German Federal Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Action Robert Habeck publicly stated that by funding hydrogen projects, Germany is taking an important step towards climate neutrality and a sustainable economy in Europe and beyond. Habeck stressed that a strong hydrogen infrastructure is essential for the decarbonization of Germany's industrial and energy sectors. He added that hydrogen pipelines will become the lifeline of industrial centers and lay the foundation for accelerating climate neutrality.

According to the department, part of the 4.6 billion euros in funding comes from the German Recovery and Resilience Plan (DARP), and has attracted an additional 3.3 billion euros in investment from participating companies, with total investment expected to reach about 7.9 billion euros by 2030.

In addition, the German government also plans to launch an import strategy for hydrogen and hydrogen derivatives, aiming to clarify Germany's import demand for hydrogen and its derivatives, and promote the establishment of international partnerships and import corridors to provide strong support for the global layout and development of the hydrogen energy industry.
